Lighting 600 Homes with Love — A Diwali for the Forgotten Mothers

“How do you celebrate Diwali, Kaka (uncle)?” we once asked Dharamshi Kaka, our dear elder.
He smiled faintly and replied,

“We don’t have such luxuries, beta. We do love sweets, but we can’t afford them. So, we make jaggery water and dip our fried suvalis (pooriyan) in it — that’s our Diwali sweet.”

His words sank deep into our hearts. For a moment, we had no words — only moist eyes and an overwhelming silence that spoke of quiet endurance.

Every month, 600 such mothers and elders receive ration supplies through our initiative. But when Diwali, the festival of light, approaches, we ensure that their homes too are touched by a gentle glow — a glow of joy, dignity, and belonging.

Each year, we send them sweets, jaggery, ghee, semolina (sooji), coarse wheat flour, gram flour, and a little extra oil — so that they can prepare their favorite festive delicacies at home, just like any other family celebrating Diwali.

This year, many compassionate well-wishers came forward to join hands in this endeavor. Their generosity transformed what might have been another dark, silent Diwali into a celebration filled with sweetness and smiles.

As you light lamps in your own homes this Diwali, know that your kindness has lit lamps in 600 others — in the humble homes of these mothers, who now celebrate with gratitude and joy.

To all our well-wishers who continue to support this noble initiative — and many others — through VSSM, we extend our heartfelt thanks.

દિવાળી કેવી રીતે ઊજવો કાકા? ને ધરમશીકાકાએ કહ્યું, અમારી પાસે ક્યાં એવી સગવડ, મીઠાઈ ગમે ખરી પણ ખરીદવા પૈસા નહીં. એટલે અમે તો ગોળનું પાણી બનાવી એમાં સુવાળીઓ (પુરી) બનાવી હોય એને બોળી દઈએ. એ અમારી મીઠાઈ...

સાંભળીને આંખો ભીની થઈ ગઈ…

ધરમશીકાકા જેવા ૬૦૦ માવતરોને અમે દર મહિને રાશન આપીએ. તેમની દિવાળી સુધરે એ પણ જોવાનું. એટલે દર વર્ષે દિવાળી નિમિત્તે તમામ માવતરોને મીઠાઈ, ગોળ, ઘી, સોજી, ઘઉંનો જાડો લોટ, ચણાનો લોટો અને દર મહિને આપીએ એના કરતા તેલ વધારે

આપીએ જેથી એ એમને ગમતી મીઠાઈ બનાવી शडे...

આ વર્ષે મીઠાઈ આપવાના કાર્યમાં અનેક સ્વજનોએ મદદ કરી એ સૌના આભારી છીએ.

તમે તમારી દિવાળીની સાથે સાથે આ માવતરોની દિવાળી પણ ઝગમતી કરી એનો रायो....

From Despair to Dignity — A New Beginning for Tana’s Families

In Tana village, near Sihor in Bhavnagar district, live many families from the Devi Pujak and Nathbava communities.
Among them, one heartbreaking reality stands out — an unusually high number of widowed women in the Nathbava community.

When asked why, the answer came  —

“Alcohol addiction.”

Hearing those words was painful. One wonders — even when people know that addiction destroys families, why does the lesson never seem to sink in? That question lingers long after the conversation ends.

Beyond the tragedy of addiction lies another struggle — the absence of secure homes. Many families in Tana had lived for years without residential plots of their own, constantly moving, never feeling settled.

To bring stability and dignity to their lives, VSSM (Vicharata Samuday Samarthan Manch) made a formal representation to the government for the allocation of residential plots.

Dr. K. R. Shroff Foundation (KRSF) stands shoulder to shoulder with VSSM in this mission — helping India’s most underprivileged citizens receive their rightful entitlements and recognition.

Thanks to these combined efforts, the government began the process of allotting plots to the deprived families of Tana. The village Talati, Sarpanch, and several well-wishers also came forward to support the initiative.

Today, what was once a story of loss and helplessness is slowly turning into one of hope and renewal.
When people join hands for a noble cause, even the most forgotten corners of society begin to find light again.

“કેમ આવું?”

“દારૂનું વ્યસન” સાંભળીને દુઃખ થયું. ખબર છે વ્યસનથી બરબાદી થાય છતાં લોકો એ સમજતા કેમ નહીં હોય એ પ્રશ્ન સતત થાય..

ભાવનગરના સિહોરના ટાણામાં રહેતા આ બેય સમુદાયના ઘરવિહોણા પરિવારોને પ્લોટ ફળવાય તે માટે VSSM એ રજૂઆત કરી. ડૉ. કે.આર.શ્રોફ ફાઉન્ડેશન VSSM ને દેશના તકવંચિત નાગરિકોને નાગરિક તરીકેના અધિકારો મળે તે માટે મદદ કરે. સંસ્થાની રજૂઆતના પગલે સરકારે પ્લોટ ફાળવવાની પ્રક્રિયા હાથ ધરી.

The First Generation Received Ration Cards — and a Sense of Belonging

For generations, countless families from nomadic tribes and underprivileged communities have lived on the margins — invisible in government records, unrecognized as citizens.
Through its tireless efforts, VSSM (Vicharata Samuday Samarthan Manch) works to bring these families into the fold of society — by helping them obtain essential documents and access to welfare schemes.

Behind this work stands a dedicated team spread across several districts — moving from village to village, family to family — ensuring that no one is left out.
Supporting such a mission involves ongoing expenses, from honorariums to travel costs. Yet, very few donors choose to contribute to this kind of behind-the-scenes effort.

Most well-wishers prefer to donate toward visible causes — building homes, arranging marriages, or supporting children’s education. And that’s understandable. But as we have often said — if the government’s budget for the poor is used effectively, society can save enormous resources otherwise spent directly.

After all, the funds for these welfare schemes come from the taxes we all pay. What’s essential is that these funds reach those who truly need them.

That’s why Dr. K. R. Shroff Foundation (KRSF) supports VSSM in strengthening its team — to ensure that their human rights and citizenship work continues effectively. When our efforts combine with government support, the impact multiplies many times over.

Through this partnership, VSSM has helped numerous families obtain voter ID cards, ration cards, caste certificates, residential plots, and housing assistance — in short, the recognition and dignity that every citizen deserves.

In Sarsa village of Anand district, several Salat families lived in huts on the village outskirts. With KRSF’s support, VSSM helped them obtain their identity documents — and soon, their ration cards too.
When Respected Shri Pratulbhai Shroff visited the village, the families joyfully said,

“Now we’ll also get our plots soon!”

The grains received through these ration cards brought immediate relief — a sense of stability and security to their homes.
And the happiness on their faces reflected something even deeper — a sense of belonging.

It is only when we meet such families personally that we truly understand what a single ration card can mean.
For them, it is not just a document — it is a gateway to dignity.

We at Dr. K. R. Shroff Foundation, through our partnership with VSSM, feel immense joy and pride in being an instrument of hope for many such families who are receiving their rightful place in society — often, for the very first time.

પહેલી પેઢીને રેશનકાર્ડ મળ્યા

વિચરતી જાતિઓને તેમજ તકવંચિત પરિવારોને આ દેશના નાગરિક તરીકે આધારો, વિવિધ યોજનાઓની મદદ મળે તે માટે VSSM સતત પ્રયત્ન કરે.

આ કાર્ય માટે વિવિધ જિલ્લામાં સંસ્થાના કાર્યકરોની ટીમ ખૂબ મથે. ટીમ પાછળ ખર્ચ પણ ઘણો થાય. સામાન્ય રીતે આવા કાર્યોમાં મદદ કરનાર લોકોની સંખ્યા એકદમ આંગળીના વેઢે ગણાય એટલી.

મોટાભાગના સ્વજનોને ઘર બાંધકામ, કોઈને જમાડવું, શિક્ષણ આપવું આ પ્રકારના કાર્યોમાં મદદ કરવી ગમે. પણ કોઈને માનદ વેતન આપવામાં કે પ્રવાસ ખર્ચમાં મદદ કરવી ઓછી ગમે.. દરેકની પોતાની એક વિચારસરણી એટલે એ યોગ્ય પણ ખરું....

પણ અમને હંમેશા લાગે કે સરકાર વંચિતો માટે જે બજેટ ફાળવે તે યોગ્ય રીતે ખર્ચાય તો સમાજના સીધી રીતે ખર્ચાતા પૈસા બચે.. ટેક્સ રૂપે આપણે જે ભરીએ એમાંથી જ વિવિધ કલ્યાણકારી યોજનાઓમાં પૈસા ખર્ચાય ત્યારે એ નાણાં પણ યોગ્ય રીતે ખર્ચાય એ જોવું જરૂરી..

VSSMને અમે તેમના કાર્યકરોની ટીમને મજબૂત કરવા તેઓ માનવ અધિકારના કાર્યો કરી શકે તે માટે મદદ કરીએ. અમે માનીએ કે, ‘આપણા નાણાંની સાથે સરકારની સહાય ભળે તો કામ બમણું અથવા એનાથીયે અનેક ઘણું થઈ જાય.

KRSF અને અન્ય સ્વજનોની મદદથી VSSM આજે અનેક પરિવારોને મતદાર કાર્ડ, રેશનકાર્ડ, રહેવા પ્લોટ, જાતિ પ્રમાણપત્ર, રહેણાંક અર્થે પ્લોટ, ઘર માટે સહાય ટૂંકમાં અનેક પ્રકારની કલ્યાણકારી યોજનાની મદદ અપાવી શક્યું છે.

આણંદના સારસા ગામમાં સલાટ પરિવારો ગામના છેવાડે ઝૂંપડામાં રહે. ઓળખના આધારો કઢાવવામાં KRSF નિમિત્ત બન્યું. રેશનકાર્ડ પણ આ પરિવારોને મળ્યા. અમારા પ્રતુલભાઈ શ્રોફ સામે આ પરિવારોએ કાર્ડ મળ્યાનો હરખ વ્યક્ત કર્યો ને હવે અમને ઝટ પ્લોટ પણ મળશે એવું

કહ્યું. રેશનકાર્ડના લીધે મળતા અનાજથી આ પરિવારોને ટેકો થયો...

એમના ચહેરા પરનો આનંદ જોઈને અમે પણ રાજી..

કોઈ માટે રેશનકાર્ડ આટલું મહત્વનું એ એમને પ્રત્યક્ષ મળીએ ત્યારે ખ્યાલ આવે. અમને આનંદ છે ડૉ. કે.આર. શ્રોફ ફાઉન્ડેશન VSSM ના માધ્યમથી અનેક પરિવારોના સુખમાં નિમિત્ત બની રહ્યું છે

Earth Has a Fever; We Apply Cold Compresses

"When the heart of humankind once overflowed with joy,

as the Rain God arrived on time and poured his blessings,

today, that joy has turned into mourning —

a mourning called global warming.

Along with the Himalayas, the very essence of our world stands wounded.

O human, you have stepped beyond the sacred boundaries of nature,

and through your countless mistakes,

even the mighty Himalayas have begun to melt.

O human, seeing this grave crisis unfold, awaken now!

If not for yourself, then at least for the generations to come — become wise."

This poem, written by Sujal Patel, beautifully portrays the struggle that the entire world faces today against global warming.

We often say — “Our Earth has a fever.”

When a person suffers from a fever that won’t go away,

we not only give medicine but also place cool wet cloths on their forehead.

But when will we place such cool cloths on our Mother Earth?

If we fail to do so, the situation will only worsen.

To cool her down, we have taken up the task of planting trees.

Together with VSSM, we create village forests (Gram Vans).

We also encourage children in the schools where our teachers work

to plant and nurture trees themselves.

In Morila village of Banaskantha,

we created a Gram Van by planting over 6,500 trees —

not just planting, but taking a pledge to nurture them.

Once, the village cremation ground was a desolate, frightening place,

overrun with wild gando bawal shrubs.

Today, it is full of flourishing trees.

Villagers now come to rest in the shade of these trees —

their fear of the cremation ground has faded away.

And countless living beings have found shelter in this green haven.

Our Mother Earth is alive.

Had she not been, no grain would have ever grown.

We are making efforts that bring her coolness and relief —

and we feel deeply content in doing so.

માનવ કેરા હૈયા એવા તે મન ભરી હરખાતા જ્યારે મેઘરાજા ઋતુ અનુસાર આવીને વરસતા,

ગ્લોબલ વોર્મિંગ કેરો માતમ એવો તે છવાયો હિમાલયની સાથે સાથે જગતનો તાત પણ ઘવાયો,

કુદરતના દાયરા ઓળંગી બહાર જેવો રે તુ નીકળ્યો

માનવી તારી અનેક હજાર ભૂલથી અડગ હિમાલય પણ પીગળ્યો,

હે માનવી, વિકટ સ્થિતિ સર્જાતી જોઈ હવે તો

પોતાના માટે કંઈ નહીં તો ભાવી પેઢી માટે શાણો થાને.

સુજલ પટેલ લિખિત આ કવિતા આપણી ગ્લોબલ વોર્મીંગની સમસ્યા સામે આજે આખું વિશ્વ ઝઝૂમી રહ્યું છે તે દર્શાવે છે.

અમે સૌને કહીએ કે આપણી ધરતીને તાવ આવ્યો છે. માણસને જ્યારે તાવ આવે ને એ ન ઉતરે તો દવાની સાથે સાથે માથે ભીના પોતા મૂકવામાં આવે. પણ આપણી ધરતી પર ભીના પોતા મુકવાનું ક્યારે થશે? એ નહીં કરીએ તો સ્થિતિ વધારે વિષમ બનતી જવાની.. અમે ભીના પોતા મુકવાનું કામ વૃક્ષો વાવી કરવાનું કરી રહ્યા છે.

VSSM સાથે મળીને અમે ગ્રામવનો કરીએ. આ સિવાય જે શાળામાં અમારા શિક્ષકો બાળકોને ભણાવે તે શાળામાં પણ બાળકો વૃક્ષ વાવી ઉછેરે એ માટે પ્રયત્ન કરીએ.

અમે બનાસકાંઠાના મોરીલામાં ગ્રામવન કર્યું. સ્મશાનમાં ૬૫૦૦ થી વધારે વૃક્ષો વાવ્યા એ પણ ઉછેરવાના સંકલ્પ સાથે…

ગામનું સ્મશાન એક વખત ભેંકાર, ગાંડાબાવળથી ભરેલું હતું. ત્યાં આજે અનેક વૃક્ષો ઉછરી રહ્યા છે. ગામના લોકો આ વૃક્ષોના છાંયડે બેસવા સ્મશાનમાં આવે છે. એ રીતે તેમને સ્મશાનનો ભય પણ ભાંગ્યો છે. સાથે અનેક જીવોએ આ ગ્રામવનમાં આસરો લીધો છે.

આપણી ધરતી મા જીવતી છે. એ જીવતી ન હોત તો અનાજ ન પાકત. અમે એને ટાઢક પહોંચે એવા કાર્યો કરી રહ્યા છીએ એનો રાજીપો...

Don’t Cut the Living Fence — A Village That Chose Life Over Convenience

Vajapur — a picturesque village nestled in Banaskantha — recently became the site of a heartwarming environmental movement. The Vicharata Samuday Samarthan Manch (VSSM) was invited to plant and nurture trees in the village cremation ground, and since Dr. K. R. Shroff Foundation (KRSF) has long supported VSSM in such ecological initiatives, it was decided to transform the site into a Krishna Veena Gramvan — a village forest dedicated to life, remembrance, and renewal.

The villagers began by clearing the wild Prosopis juliflora (gando baval) trees and arranging a reliable water source. Soon after, over 5,000 saplings were planted under a drip irrigation system, and a dedicated caretaker was appointed to ensure their daily upkeep.

Before the planting began, extensive discussions were held with the villagers on the sacred role of trees in sustaining both nature and community life.

Across North Gujarat, farmers have gradually been replacing traditional “living fences” — natural thorny hedges that once bordered farms — with metal wire fencing. This shift, though practical, often results in the loss of countless trees and shrubs that form vital habitats for birds, insects, and small creatures.

Thanks to the continued awareness efforts of KRSF and VSSM, the people of Vajapur have developed a deep respect for preserving their living fences — a respect beautifully embodied by their village leader, Hirabhai.

When the VSSM team later visited Vajapur to check on the forest’s progress, the villagers shared an inspiring story:

“Hirabhai strictly forbids cutting down living fences,” they said. “He always reminds us that wire fences destroy trees, and with them, the homes of many small living beings. So, following his guidance, we decided against wire fencing altogether.”

What a profound and compassionate thought!

Today, the cremation ground in Vajapur has transformed into a vibrant grove, filled with the lush greenery of thriving trees. The appointed caretaker devotes his entire day to nurturing them, while Motibhai and the village sarpanch visit daily to monitor their growth and health. Their collective care and vigilance are the true reasons this Gramvan flourishes so beautifully.

As Respected Shri Pratulbhai Shroff often reflects,

“There is much to learn from a tree. Just as Gandhiji said, ‘My life is my message,’ a tree too seems to say the same. Even when someone comes to cut it down, it still offers shade.”

Through the creation of Vajapur’s Gramvan and the villagers’ commitment to protecting their living fences, we are reminded that true progress lies not in replacing nature, but in coexisting with it.

KRSF takes immense pride in being a part of such transformative efforts — planting, protecting, and nurturing trees that stand as living symbols of harmony between humankind and nature. 

જીવતી વાડને ન કાપીએ

બનાસકાંઠાનું વજાપુર મજાનું ગામ. ગામના સ્મશાનમાં વૃક્ષો વાવી ઉછેરવા માટેનું આમંત્રણ VSSM સંસ્થાને મળ્યું. KRSF આ કાર્યમાં VSSM ને મદદ કરે એટલે કૃષ્ણ વીણા ગ્રામવન વજાપુરમાં કરવાનું નક્કી કર્યું

ગામના સ્મશાનમાં ગાંડો બાવળ ગામે એ કઢાવ્યો. ને પાણીની વ્યવસ્થા કરી એ પછી 5000 ઉપરાંત વૃક્ષો વાવી, ડ્રીપ કરી, પગારદાર માણસ વૃક્ષોની દેખરેખ રાખવાનું અમે કર્યું. વૃક્ષો વાવતા પહેલા ગ્રામજનોને વૃક્ષ અંગે વાતો કરીએ. ઉત્તર ગુજરાતમાં ધીમે ધીમે કાંટાળી વાડ કાઢી ખેડૂતો તાર ફ્રેન્સીંગ કરવા માંડ્યા છે. જેમાં ઘણા વૃક્ષો કપાય. પણ KRSF અને VSSM ના સતત પ્રયત્નોથી હવે લોકોમાં જીવતી વાડ પ્રત્યે જાગૃતિ આવી છે. વજાપુરમાં વાવેલા વૃક્ષો જોવા VSSM ટીમ ગઈ ત્યારે ગામના આગેવાન હીરાભાઈની મજાની વાત ગામલોકોએ કહી, હીરાભાઈ ગામ લોકોને જીવતી વાડ કાઢવાની મનાઈ કરે એ કહે, તારની વાડમાં ઘણા ઝાડ

કાપવા પડે. નાના જીવો હાલની આપણી જીવતી વાડમાં રહે એમનો આશરો જતો રહે. એમની વાત માની અમે તારની વાડ નથી કરી.'

કેવી મજાની વાત..

ગામના સ્મશાનમાં વૃક્ષોનો સરસ ઉછેર જોઈ મન હરખાયું.

અમારા વૃક્ષમિત્ર પણ દિવસ આખો સ્મશાનમાં રહે ને જબરુ મથે. મોતીભાઈ ને ગામના સરપંચશ્રી પણ સ્મશાનમાં રોજ આંટો મારે ને ઝાડના ખબર પૂછે... કદાચ એટલે જ વાવેલા ઝાડ સરસ ઉછર્યા..

આદરણીય પ્રતુલભાઈ શ્રોફ કહે, વૃક્ષ પાસેથી ઘણું શીખવા જેવું. ગાંધીજી જેમ કહેતા ‘મારું જીવન એજ મારો સંદેશ' કદાચ વૃક્ષ પણ એજ કહે છે. વૃક્ષને કાપવા આવનારને પણ એ છાંયડે બેસવાની ના નથી પાડતું. અમને આનંદ છે કે ફાઉન્ડેશન તરીકે અમે આટલી મોટી સંખ્યામાં વૃક્ષો વાવી ઉછેરી શક્યા.

Check Dam Repairs in Tribal Areas

Gujarat’s eastern belt — home to its tribal communities — is a land of lush forests and generous rainfall. Yet, paradoxically, by the time January and February arrive, water scarcity grips these regions. Wells run dry, fields lie barren, and many families are forced to migrate to towns and cities in search of daily-wage work.

Most tribal households own small patches of farmland, but without irrigation facilities, they remain at the mercy of the monsoon. Even drinking water becomes scarce once the rains recede.

To address this, the government regularly undertakes water conservation projects in tribal areas — one vital initiative being the repair and desilting of check dams, which help retain rainwater and recharge groundwater sources.

This year, under the 80–20 Scheme, the Dr. K. R. Shroff Foundation (KRSF), in collaboration with Vicharata Samuday Samarthan Manch (VSSM), undertook extensive check dam repair work. Under the scheme, 80% of the cost was funded by the government, while the remaining 20% was to be contributed by KRSF and VSSM.

However, in true spirit of commitment, both organizations went beyond their share — investing additional resources to ensure the strength and longevity of these crucial water structures.

Through this partnership, seven check dams in the Poshi taluka of Sabarkantha district were successfully repaired. When the monsoon arrived, these check dams filled beautifully, replenishing groundwater and recharging nearby wells.

Today, farmers in Poshi have access to reliable irrigation, and families that once migrated for survival can now stay and thrive in their villages.

With every drop conserved, a dream of stability and self-reliance takes root in Gujarat’s tribal heartland.

Through sustained collaboration with the government, KRSF continues its mission to make water security a lasting reality for communities across regions like Poshi. 

આદિવાસી વિસ્તારોમાં ચેકડેમ રીપેરીંગ

આદિવાસી વિસ્તાર એટલે ગુજરાતની પૂર્વ પટ્ટી. કેટલોય વિસ્તાર જંગલ આચ્છાદિત. વરસાદ પણ પ્રમાણમાં સારો પડે પણ ચોમાસા પછી જાન્યુઆરી, ફેબ્રુઆરી આવતા પાણીની મુશ્કેલી સર્જાવાનું શરૂ થઈ જાય. નાછુટકે લોકોને પોતાનું ગામ છોડીને શહેરમાં કે જ્યાં મજૂરી મળે ત્યાં મજૂરી માટે જવું પડે. આદિવાસી પરિવારોમાંના ઘણા પાસે નાનકડી જમીન ખરી પણ જમીન પર પિયત માટે પાણી ન હોય. કૂવાથી ખેતી કરનાર પરિવારોના કૂવા ખાલી થઈ જાય. ક્યાંક તો પીવાના પાણીની પણ ભારે મુશ્કેલી પડે.

સરકાર દ્વારા આદિવાસી વિસ્તારમાં જળસંચયના ઘણા કામો સતત થયા કરે. એમાંનું એક ચેકડેમ રીપેરીંગનું, ડી-સિલ્ટીંગનું કામ. આ વર્ષે સરકારે ૮૦ - ૨૦ યોજનામાં ચેકડેમ રીપેરીંગનું કામ KRSF અને VSSMએ

કર્યું. આ ૨૦ ટકા આમ તો ર૦ ટકા કરતા વધારે રકમ સરખો ને મજબૂત ચેકડેમ કરવો હોય તો થાય એ બેય સંસ્થાએ સાથે મળીને કર્યું.

સરકાર અને KRSF ની મદદથી ૭ ચેકડેમ સાબરકાંઠા જિલ્લાના પોશીના તાલુકામાં રીપેર કર્યા.

ચેકડેમ ચોમાસે સરસ ભરાયા. પાણી રોકાવાના લીધે ખેડૂતોના કૂવા પણ અત્યારે પાણીથી ભરેલા છે.

ના છૂટકે શહેરમાં આવવા જેમને મજબૂર થવું પડે તે પરિવારોને પાણીની સગવડ કરી આપી તો એ ગામમાં ખુશ છે... બસ આ ભાવના સાથે આદિવાસી વિસ્તાર ખાસ કરીને પોશીનામાં અમે જળસંચયના કાર્યોમાં સરકાર સાથે ભાગીદારી કરીએ....

Reviving Hope, Reviving Water — The Story of Jepur’s Pond

Nestled in Vijapur taluka of Mehsana district, Jepur village once grappled with a severe groundwater crisis. Though the village had a pond, it had become too shallow over the years to hold sufficient rainwater. Each summer, the villagers watched helplessly as their wells ran dry and their farmlands thirsted for water.

Determined to bring change, the village joined hands under the Government’s Sujalam Sufalam Campaign. The task of desilting and deepening the pond was entrusted to VSSM (Vicharata Samuday Samarthan Manch).

Under the scheme, the government agreed to bear 60% of the excavation cost, while the remaining 40% was to be contributed by a partner organization. Recognizing the long-term importance of this initiative, the Dr. K. R. Shroff Foundation (KRSF) partnered with VSSM and came forward to fund the remaining share.

The villagers too played their part — contributing physical labour and removing the excavated soil, reaffirming the spirit of community participation.

Through the combined efforts of the government, KRSF, VSSM, and the people of Jepur, the pond was successfully deepened. And when the monsoon arrived, the once-dry pond brimmed with life-giving water once again.

Today, the groundwater level has improved, and farmers no longer need to drill new borewells. The revived pond stands as a testament to what collective determination can achieve.

In villages where groundwater has reached critical levels, deepening existing ponds and constructing new ones is not just a solution — it’s an act of safeguarding the future.

There is a profound sense of fulfillment in knowing that, together, we can replenish Mother Earth — restoring her strength, drop by drop, and ensuring that every village thrives once more. 

જે ગામોમાં જળ વ્યવસ્થાપન કર્યું તેની વાતો

જેપુર ગામનું તળાવ ખોદવામાં નિમિત્ત બન્યા, આ તળાવ સરસ ભરાયું

મહેસાણા જિલ્લાના વિજાપુરનું જેપુર ગામ. પાણીના તળ આ ગામમાં પણ ઊંડા. ગામમાં તળાવ ખરું પણ છીછરું. આ તળાવ ગાળવાનું કામ સરકાર દ્વારા સુજલામ સુફલામ અભિયાન અંતર્ગત VSSM ને સોંપવામાં આવ્યું. સરકાર ખોદકામ માટે ૬૦ ટકા રકમ આપે બાકીની સંસ્થાએ ભરવાની. VSSM સાથે મળી KRSF જળસંચયના કાર્યો કરે. અમે ૪૦ ટકા રકમની મદદ કરવાનું સ્વીકાર્યું. ગામે પણ માટી ઉપાડવાનું સ્વીકાર્યું. આમ સરકાર, ગામ અને સંસ્થાના સહિયારા

પ્રયાસથી ગામનું તળાવ ઊંડુ થયું ને આ ચોમાસે આ તળાવ પાણીથી સરસ ભરાયું.

જમીનમાં પાણી ઉતર્યું, તળ રિચાર્જ થયા એટલે ખેડૂતોને બોરવેલમાં નવી કોલમ ઉતારવી ન પડી. પાણીની જ્યાં જોખમી સ્થિતિએ પહોંચ્યા તે દરેક ગામના તમામ તળાવ એકદમ સરસ રીતે ઊંડા કરવાનું તેમજ જરૂર પડે નવા તળાવો નીમ કરવાનું થાય એ અગત્યનું. ભાવી પેઢી માટે પાણી બતાવવું પડશે.

અમે ધરતી માને તૃપ્ત કરવાના કાર્યમાં નિમિત્ત બની શક્યા એનો રાજીપો...

From Needle to New Beginnings — The Inspiring Journey of Kanchanben

Once, she couldn’t afford a sewing machine.
Today, she saves ₹6,000 every month.

Even the toughest problem can find a solution — if we truly try. The real question is whether we have the courage to act on it.

In Dabhan village of Kheda district, lives Kanchanben. Her husband worked in a company, and she took up farm labour whenever work was available. But farm work was seasonal, and surviving on her husband’s limited income alone became increasingly difficult.

Just when she was wondering what to do, a ray of hope appeared — the government started sewing classes in her village. Eager to learn, Kanchanben joined and quickly picked up the skill. But soon, a new challenge emerged — she didn’t have enough savings to buy her own sewing machine.

Around this time, she came to know that the Dr. K. R. Shroff Foundation (KRSF), through its partnership with VSSM (Vicharata Samuday Samarthan Manch), provides interest-free loans to underprivileged and nomadic community families to help them become self-reliant.

With newfound hope, Kanchanben approached field worker Rajinibhai and applied for a ₹50,000 loan — to buy a sewing machine and fabric for making and selling readymade dresses and blouses.

Her determination and sincerity shone through her eyes — it was the kind of spirit that deserved support.

After receiving the loan, Kanchanben slowly began her small tailoring business. What started with a single machine soon turned into a steady source of income.

Today, she earns ₹6,000–₹7,000 per month — and even manages to save a part of it.

Now, she dreams of expanding her shop and helping her husband start his own rickshaw business, so that together they can build a more secure and independent life.

When Kanchanben met Respected Shri Pratulbhai Shroff, she became emotional and said softly,

“I feel truly happy now.”

ખેડાના ડભાણ ગામમાં કંચનબેન રહે, પતિ કંપનીમાં નોકરીએ જાય ને કંચનબેન ખેતમજૂરી મળે તો એ કરે. પણ ખેતમજૂરી બારે મહિના મળે નહીં ને પતિની કમાણી પર ઘર ચલાવવામાં તકલીફ પડે. શું કરવું એ સમજાતું નહોતું.

ગામમાં સિવણના વર્ગો સરકારે શરૂ કરાવ્યા. કંચનબેન સિવણ શીખ્યા. પણ મુદ્દો મશીનનો હતો. બચત એટલી હતી નહીં કે એ મશીન ખરીદી શકે.

ડૉ. કે.આર.શ્રોફ ફાઉન્ડેશન તકવંચિત અને વિચરતી જાતિઓના પરિવારોને VSSM ના માધ્યમથી લોન આપી ધંધો કરતા કરે, એ કંચનબેન જાણે. એમણે સંસ્થાના કાર્યકર રજનીભાઈનો સંપર્ક કરી. સિલાઈ મશીનની

સાથે સાથે કપડું ખરીદી તૈયાર ડ્રેસ,બ્લાઉઝ વગેરે સીવી વેચવા ₹૫૦,૦૦૦/- લોનની માંગણી કરી.

નિષ્ઠા અને મહેનત કરવાની ધગશ કંચનબેનની આંખોમાં દેખાતી હતી. આવા વ્યક્તિઓને લોન આપવાનું તો કરવું જ પડે. લોન આપી ને આજે હવે એ મહિને છ-સાત હજાર કમાતા થઈ ગયા. એમની કમાણીમાંથી એ બચત કરે ને મોટી દુકાન નાખવાનું એ સ્વપ્ન સેવે.

એમના પતિને પણ નોકરી છોડાવી રીક્ષા લઈ એ સ્વતંત્ર ધંધો કરતા થાય એવી એમની ઈચ્છા છે.

When Hope Found Its Way Back — Gopalbhai’s Journey to Self-Reliance”

"I studied up to Class 10 and then started selling cutlery. In this business, the more capital you invest, the more it grows. But I didn’t have much capital, so I began small with whatever I had,” shared Gopalbhai, his tone humble yet full of quiet determination.

He had always dreamed big — but with limited means, those dreams seemed distant. Then came a turning point. He learned that Dr. K. R. Shroff Foundation (KRSF), in collaboration with VSSM (Vicharata Samuday Samarthan Manch), provides loans to support small entrepreneurs like him.

Through his uncle Chandubhai, Gopalbhai applied and received his first loan of ₹30,000. Until then, he sold his wares from his Activa scooter, but the loan allowed him to purchase goods in bulk from Panjrapole Naka, Ahmedabad — and soon, his savings began to grow.

Encouraged by his progress, he later took a second loan of ₹50,000. With this and his savings combined, he made a ₹1 lakh down payment to purchase an Eeco van, financing the balance through a loan from a finance company.

Now, with the van, he and his wife travel together to nearby villages for business. Their daily income has become steady, and their confidence, stronger than ever.

“My goal is to finish paying off the Eeco installments soon,” he said, “so that I can be free from interest and truly independent.”

A resident of Sarsa village in Anand district, Gopalbhai shared his inspiring story directly with Dr. K. R. Shroff Foundation’s founder, Shri Pratulbhai Shroff.

Pratulbhai firmly believes that education and economic stability are the twin pillars of a transformed life. Guided by this vision, KRSF, in association with VSSM, has helped more than 9,500 families build sustainable, self-reliant livelihoods.

When asked about his dream for the future, Gopalbhai smiled and said,

“To open my own shop.”

Once a person begins to dream again, progress naturally follows.
Meeting Gopalbhai reaffirmed this truth — that with the right support, determination can turn even the simplest beginnings into success stories.

'હું દસ ધોરણ ભણ્યો પછી કટલરી વેચવાનું શરૂ કર્યું. ધંધામાં તો કેવું જેટલી મૂડી નાખો એટલી ઓછી. મારી પાસે ઝાઝી મૂડી નહોતી. એટલે જે હતું એમાંથી કટલરીનો વેપાર શરૂ કર્યો.

સપના ઊંચા જોવું પણ જે રીતે ધંધો કરતો એ રીતે એ બધું પૂરું કરવામાં વર્ષો થઈ જશે એમ લાગતું. આવામાં મને KRSF એ VSSM સંસ્થા સાથે મળીને લોન આપવાનું કાર્ય કરેનો ખ્યાલ આવ્યો. મારા કાકા ચંદુભાઈ થકી અમે સંસ્થામાં લોન મૂકી ને પ્રથમ લોન ₹૩૦,૦૦૦ની મળી. હું એક્ટીવા પર ધંધો કરતો. લોનની રકમ મળી એટલે જથ્થાબંધ સામાન પાનકોર નાકા અમદાવાદથી લાવ્યો. બચત પણ થઈ. એ પછી મે બીજી લોન ₹૫૦,૦૦૦ની લીધી. બચત અને નવી લોનની રકમમાંથી થોડા ઉમેરી ૧ લાખનું ડાઉન પેમેન્ટ ભરી મેં ઈકો ગાડી લીધી. ખૂટતી રકમની મેં ફાયનાન્સ કંપનીમાંથી લોન કરી.

હવે ગાડી આવી તો ત્રણેક ગામોમાં હું ને મારી પત્ની બેય ધંધા માટે જઈએ છીએ.

રોજની આવક પણ સરખી થાય છે. પ્રયાસ ઈકોના હપ્તા ઝટ પતાવવાનો છે જેથી હું વ્યાજમાંથી બહાર નીકળી જાઉ*

આણંદના સારસા ગામમાં રહેતા ગોપાલભાઈ ડૉ. કે.આર.શ્રોફ ફાઉન્ડેશનના સ્થાપક અમારા આદરણીય શ્રી પ્રતુલભાઈ શ્રોફ સામે ફટાફટ આ બોલી ગયા.

A Father’s Dream, A Daughter’s Future — The Story of Little Ananya

“I want to become a collector,” said little Ananya, her eyes gleaming with innocent confidence.

She may not yet understand what a collector truly does, but the dream has already been lovingly planted in her heart — by her father.

When asked why he wanted his daughter to become a collector, Harshadbhai, one of our loan beneficiaries, smiled gently and said,

“I want to be an ideal father for my daughter. When she grows up, I want her to proudly say that her father worked hard for her future.”

Though Harshadbhai had limited formal education, his sincerity and hard work never wavered. Employed in a private company, he provided for his family as best as he could, yet his modest income often fell short of their needs.

Determined to improve his family’s situation, he decided to start a small provision shop in front of his home — one that his wife, Ramilaben, could manage. However, financial constraints made it difficult to begin.

Residing in Dabhan village of Kheda district, Harshadbhai came in contact with VSSM (Vicharata Samuday Samarthan Manch) — an organization supported by the Dr. K. R. Shroff Foundation (KRSF) to help families become self-reliant.

Through VSSM, KRSF extended a loan of ₹50,000, enabling Harshadbhai to stock and establish the shop. Today, Ramilaben manages it with remarkable efficiency, and the family’s income has grown steadily.

As she shares with a bright smile,

“When both husband and wife earn, it truly makes a difference.”

This hardworking couple now stands as a shining example of determination, partnership, and shared dreams — together building a brighter, more secure future for their beloved daughter.

દીકરી માટે આદર્શ પિતા બનવાની ખેવાના રાખનાર હર્ષદભાઈએ KRSFની મદદથી દુકાન શરૂ કરી

“મારે કલેક્ટર થવું છે.”

નાનકડી અનન્યાએ આ કહ્યું…. કલેક્ટર એટલે કોણ એવી એને ઝાઝી ખબર ન પડે પણ એના પપ્પાએ એનામાં આ સ્વપ્ન રોપ્યું.

કલેક્ટર કેમ બનાવવી છે? એના જવાબમાં અનન્યાના પપ્પા એટલે કે અમારા લોનધારક હર્ષદભાઈએ કહ્યું, “મારે મારી દીકરી માટે આદર્શ પિતા બનવું છે. મોટી થઈને એ ગર્વ સાથે કહી શકે કે મારા પિતાએ મારા માટે ખૂબ મહેનત કરી..”

હર્ષદભાઈ ભણ્યા ઓછું. ખાનગી કંપનીમાં નોકરી કરે. પણ, નોકરીની આવકમાં પૂરું ન થાય. એમણે ઘર આગળ નાનકડી દુકાન નાખવાનું નક્કી કર્યું. દુકાન સંભાળવાનું એમના પત્ની રમીલાબેન કરી લેશે એવો વિશ્વાસ. પણ દુકાનમાં સામાન લાવવા પૈસા નહીં.

ખેડાના ડભાણમાં એ રહે. અમે વિચરતા સમુદાય સમર્થન મંચ (VSSM)ને લોકોને સ્વાવલંબી બનાવવા મદદ કરીએ. VSSM થકી KRSFમાંથી હર્ષદભાઈને અમે લોન પેટે ₹૫૦,૦૦૦ આપ્યા. જેમાંથી એમણે સરસ દુકાન કરી...

રમીલાબેન દુકાન સંભાળે. આવક પણ સારી થઈ રહી છે… રમીલાબેન કહે, “બે જણા કમાય તો ફરક તો પડે જ…”

From a Village Playground to the National Stage — The Inspiring Journey of Moti Dodisara’s Girls

True dedication is reflected not merely in fulfilling one’s duties, but in going beyond them. In a world where complaints about incomplete work are common, witnessing someone rise above their responsibility brings rare joy and satisfaction.

At the Dr. K. R. Shroff Foundation (KRSF), such stories of commitment shine brightly — and one such story is that of Anilbhai, a teacher appointed to Moti Dodisara village in the Aravalli district. Facing a shortage of teachers, he was assigned there to strengthen the academic foundation of children who struggled with reading, writing, and mathematics. But his vision went far beyond textbooks.

Alongside academics, Anilbhai began conducting Sanskar Sinchan (Value Cultivation) sessions to nurture moral values, discipline, and confidence among students. Yet, what truly set him apart was a dream he envisioned a year ago — to form a girls’ kabaddi team and help them reach the state level.

With tireless determination, he began training the girls — not just during school hours, but even on Sundays. His dedication soon began to bear fruit. The girls’ team triumphed at taluka and district-level tournaments, and eventually clinched a bronze medal at the state-level Khel Mahakumbh 2023–24.

The journey did not end there. Two of his students, Bhavika and Pragati, have now been selected to play at the national level — a remarkable achievement for young girls from a small village school.

At KRSF, we deeply value those who go beyond the call of duty. In keeping with our culture of encouragement, Anilbhai’s extraordinary efforts were formally recognized and honored.

Our founder, Respected Shri Pratulbhai Shroff, personally visits schools to meet teachers and appreciate their work. Upon learning about Anilbhai’s achievements, he visited Moti Dodisara to felicitate him.

“If every individual strives to give their best in their work,”
remarked Pratulbhai,
“the entire system of the nation can transform. We motivate our team in this very spirit — and that’s why such results follow.”

Indeed, the satisfaction of seeing one’s efforts blossom into meaningful change is unparalleled. May every individual perform their duty with the same sincerity, passion, and purpose as Anilbhai — for it is through such devotion that the seeds of a stronger nation are sown.

ગામડાની દીકરીઓ નેશનલમાં....

આપણને સોંપેલું કામ ખંતથી કરવું એ કાર્ય પ્રત્યે આપણી નિષ્ઠા. પણ આ જ કાલ સોંપાયેલું કામ બરાબર ન કરતા હોવાની ફરિયાદો પણ ખાસ્સી સંભળાય. ત્યારે પોતાની ફરજથી ઉપર ઉઠીને કોઈ વ્યક્તિને કામ કરતા જોઈએ ત્યારે રાજી થવાય.

KRSFની ટીમમાં અરવલ્લીના મોટી ડોડીસરા ગામમાં શિક્ષક તરીકે અનિલભાઈ કામ કરે. શાળામાં શિક્ષકની ઘટ એટલે અમે અનીલભાઈને ત્યાં મુક્યા. એમણે શાળામાં ભણતા વાંચન, લેખન અને ગણનમાં નબળા વિદ્યાર્થીઓને પાવરધા કર્યા સાથે સાથે બાળકોનું ઘડતર બરાબર થાય એ માટે અમારા સંસ્કાર સિંચનના અલાયદા વર્ગો લેવાનું પણ એમણે કર્યું.

લગભગ એકાદ વર્ષ પહેલા એમને દીકરીઓની કબડ્ડી ટીમ બનાવવાનો વિચાર

આવ્યો. દિકરીઓને રાજ્ય કક્ષાએ કબડ્ડીની સ્પર્ધામાં પહોંચાડવાની નેમ લીધા પછી એમણે સમય ન જોયો. એમનો રવિવારે પણ નિશાળના મેદાનમાં જ હોય.

કહેવાય છે કે સખત પરિશ્રમ કરીએ તો પરિણામ પણ મળે. શાળાની દીકરીઓએ તાલુકા અને જિલ્લામાં કબડ્ડી સ્પર્ધામાં મેદાન માર્યું. રાજ્ય કક્ષાના ‘ખેલ મહાકુંભ ૨૦૨૩-૨૪' માં બ્રોન્ઝ મેડલ પણ જીત્યો. શાળાની બે દિકરીઓ ભાવિકા અને પ્રગતિ હવે નેશનલ રમવા માટે જશે. 

KRSF કાર્ય-ફરજથી ઉપર ઉઠીને કામ કરનાર કાર્યકરનું સન્માન કરે. પ્રોત્સાહન આપવાની આ અમારી પદ્ધતિ. અનિલભાઈનું પણ આ કાર્ય માટે સન્માન થયું.

અમારી સંસ્થાના સ્થાપક પ્રતુલભાઈ વખતો વખત વિવિધ શાળાઓમાં ફરજ બજાવતા અમારા શિક્ષકોને મળે, એમના કાર્યને બિરદાવે. અનિલભાઈની મહેનત વિશે સાંભળી એ ખાસ મોટા ડોડીસરા પધાર્યા ને અનીલભાઈને બિરદાવ્યા

પ્રતુલભાઈ કહે, ‘દરેક વ્યક્તિ પોતાના કામમાં પોતાનું ઉત્તમ આપવા કોશિશ કરે તો દેશની સકલ બદલાઈ જાય. અમે એ રીતે અમારી ટીમને પ્રોત્સાહિત કરીએ છીએ એટલે આવા પરિણામો મળે.' પોતાની સંપત્તિનો સદઉપયોગ થતો જોઈ એ રાજી....

Takatuka stands among the leading schools of the region, known for the harmony and commitment of its teachers, principal, and foundation-appointed educators who work together as one dedicated team. Among them is Sangeetaben, a teacher placed by the Dr. K. R. Shroff Foundation (KRSF), whose devotion to her students goes far beyond the call of duty.

Although school hours officially begin at 10:30 a.m., Sangeetaben arrives by 9:00 a.m. each day — her mornings devoted to special preparatory sessions for the NMMS exam. Her quiet perseverance and belief in her students have borne wonderful results: this year, seven of her girl students not only passed the exam but also secured places on the merit list.

Each of them now receives a monthly scholarship of ₹1,000, a reward that supports their continued education and strengthens their dreams for the future.

When we met two of the achievers, Kundanika and Heli, their faces glowed with pride.

“We are saving the scholarship money for our higher studies after Class 12,” they shared. “Our families are very proud that we cleared this exam.”

Both credited their success to the tireless guidance of Sangeetaben and the unwavering support of the school’s teaching team.

ટાકાટુકાની પ્રાથમિક શાળામાં ભણતી 7 વિધાર્થીનીઓને NMMS સ્કોલરશીપની મદદ મળી

ટાકાટુકા અરવલ્લી જિલ્લાના ભિલોડાની અવ્વલ નિશાળ. શાળાના શિક્ષકો, આચાર્ય અને અમે. એટલે કે, આ શાળામાં શિક્ષકોની ઘટની પૂર્તિ માટે મૂકેલા બધા એક જૂથ થઈને કામ કરીએ. અમે આ શાળામાં સંગીતાબેનને મુક્યાં. સંગીતાબેન એમના વર્ગના બાળકોને નિયમિત ભણાવે. સાથે સાથે NMMSની પરિક્ષા આપવા ઈચ્છતા વિદ્યાર્થીઓને પરિક્ષાની તૈયારી પણ શાળાના અન્ય શિક્ષકો સાથે મળીને કરાવે. શાળાનો સમય ૧૦:૩૦નો પણ સંગીતાબેન ૯ વાગે આવે અને બાળકોને ખાસ પરીક્ષાની તૈયારી કરાવે.

આ વર્ષે એમણે જે વિદ્યાર્થીઓને તૈયારી કરાવતા હતા, તેમાંથી ૭ વિદ્યાર્થીનીઓએ પરિક્ષા પાસ કરી અને મેરીટમાં આવી. એમને માસીક ₹૧,૦૦૦ સ્કોલરશીપ મળવાની શરૂ થઈ.

પરીક્ષા પાસ કરનાર કુંદનિકા અને હેલીને મળવાનું થયું તો એમણે કહ્યું. ‘હાલ સ્કોલરશીપમાં જે રકમ મળે તે અમે ખર્ચ કરતા નથી. એ રકમ બચશે તો અમને ધો.૧૨ પછી ઉચ્ચ અભ્યાસમાં એ કામ લાગશે. અમારા ઘરવાળાને પણ અમારા માટે ગર્વ છે કે અમે આ પરીક્ષા પાસ કરી શક્યા'.

બેય વિદ્યાર્થીનીઓએ સંગીતાબેન તેમજ શાળાના શિક્ષકોની મહેનતના લીધે પાસ થયાનું કહ્યું.

The Language of Care — How a Teacher Awakened Sanskar’s Spirit

In the small village of Budheli in Aravalli district, a young boy named Sanskar lived just a few steps away from his school — yet he dreaded going there.

His mother, originally from Maharashtra, wanted nothing more than to see her son study well and build a better life. But Sanskar had no interest in school. He neither read nor wrote properly, and seemed completely disconnected from the classroom. Even though the school was within shouting distance, his heart was miles away from learning.

He often came to school unbathed, wearing untidy clothes, avoiding lessons and classmates alike. It was as though he carried an invisible wall between himself and the world of education.

At that time, the school was facing a shortage of teachers. To bridge the gap, Dr. K. R. Shroff Foundation (KRSF) deputed Snehal ben, a compassionate and dedicated teacher, to the school.

Soon, her attention turned to the quiet, withdrawn boy named Sanskar. Wanting to understand the reason behind his irregular attendance, she decided to visit his home.

There, she discovered the root of his struggle. Sanskar’s mother, being Maharashtrian, had remarried and moved to Gujarat. The family spoke Marathi at home — a language Sanskar understood — but he couldn’t comprehend Gujarati, the medium of instruction at school. Despite his parents’ best efforts, the language barrier had turned education into a source of frustration and fear for him.

Snehalbben, embodying KRSF’s guiding value of “Child First,” took it upon herself to change that. With extraordinary patience and empathy, she began teaching Sanskar Gujarati — slowly, lovingly, and with creative methods that made learning enjoyable.

Gradually, the transformation began. Sanskar started coming to school regularly — clean, well-dressed, and eager to learn. His once-blank eyes now shone with curiosity and confidence.

The school staff couldn’t help but admire Snehalbben’s efforts. They said,

“It was really difficult to make Sanskar a regular student, but she achieved it through sheer determination.”

When Respected Shri Pratulbhai Shroff learned of Snehalbben’s remarkable work, he personally visited Budheli Primary School to meet her and express his appreciation. The teachers at Budheli also conveyed heartfelt gratitude to KRSF for appointing such a devoted educator.

સંસ્કારની માં મૂળ મહારાષ્ટ્રની એને એનો દિકરો ભણે એની હોંશ પણ સંસ્કારને નિશાળમાં આવવું જરાય ન ગમે.

સંસ્કારને વાંચતા, લખતા પણ ન આવડે. નિશાળમાં આવવા માટેના એની પાસે જાણે કારણો જ નહીં. અન્ય વિદ્યાર્થીઓ સાથે પણ એને ખાસ ગોઠે નહીં.

અરવલ્લીનું બુઢેલી ગામ ને ત્યાંની પ્રાથમિકશાળામાં સંસ્કાર ભણે. આમ એનું ઘર શાળાથી સાવ નજીક પણ શાળા પ્રત્યે એને ભારે અણગમો. એ નાહ્યા વગર જ નિશાળ આવે. કપડા પણ ઘણી વખત ગંદા પહેરે..

આ શાળામાં શિક્ષકની ઘટ. KRSF એ સ્નેહલબેનને ત્યાં બાળકોને ભણાવવા મૂક્યા. એમનું ધ્યાન સંસ્કાર પર ગયું. અનિયમિતતાનું કારણ તપાસવા એ છેક ઘર સુધી ગયા ને ખ્યાલ આવ્યો કે, સંસ્કારને ગુજરાતી બહુ સમજમાં નથી આવતી. માં મહારાષ્ટ્રીય ને એ બીજા લગ્ન કરીને અહીંયા આવી છે. મા પ્રયત્ન કરે એના પિતા પણ કોશિશ કરે પણ સંસ્કારને ગુજરાતી ફાવે નહીં. અમારા સ્નેહલબેને સંસ્કારને ગુજરાતી શીખવાડવાનું બીડુ ઝડપ્યું ને એ સફળ થયા. એ નિશાળમાં પણ હવે એકદમ તૈયાર થઈને આવતો થઈ ગયો.

શાળાના અન્ય સ્ટાફ પણ સ્નેહલબેનની આ મહેનતને બિરદાવી. એમણે કહ્યું, સંસ્કારને શાળામાં કાયમી કરવો ખરેખર અઘરુ હતું. પણ બેને ઘગશથી એ કર્યું.

KRSFનું મૂલ્ય 'બાળક પ્રથમ'. અમે જેટલા પણ બાળકોની કેળવણીમાં નિમિત્ત બની રહ્યા છીએ. એ દરેક બાળક સરખુ ભણે એને શાળા ગમે ને ખાસ એનું ભણવાનું ન છુટે એ જોવાનું અમે કરીએ. સંસ્કાર માટે સ્નેહલબેને કરેલા પ્રયત્નોનો ખ્યાલ અમારા પ્રતુલભાઈને આવ્યો.

આવા શિક્ષકોને એ ખાસ એમના કાર્ય સ્થળ પર જઈને એમણે બિરદાવે. સ્નેહલબેનને બિરદાવવા પણ એ બુઢેલી ગયા.

These heartfelt words come from Riddhiben, a supplementary teacher placed by KRSF at the Primary School in Ghoghasamdi village, Botad district. Her eyes gleamed with quiet pride — the pride of a teacher who had helped two young children break free from the chains of addiction.

During her time at the school, Riddhiben discovered that a boy and a girl in her class had become habitual users of gutka and mawa (tobacco products). Instead of reprimanding or humiliating them before others, she chose a gentler, wiser path.

Through KRSF’s “Sanskar Sinchan” (Value Cultivation) sessions — a unique initiative focusing on moral and character development — she began conducting discussions on de-addiction and the dangers of substance abuse. She spoke not with judgment, but with compassion, using real-life examples to show how addiction destroys both body and future.

When the two children heard her lessons, fear and guilt overcame them. Convinced that their secret would be revealed, they stopped attending school altogether.

But Riddhiben’s heart understood what their silence meant. Refusing to let them drift away, she visited their homes personally. She spoke to them with empathy and tenderness, assuring them that mistakes can be corrected — that with courage and willpower, they could reclaim their lives.

Her warmth and belief rekindled their confidence. Both children promised to quit their harmful habits — and they kept their word. Gradually, they returned to school, free from addiction, full of energy, joy, and self-belief.

Today, they are among the most active and engaged students in class.

Reflecting on the experience, Riddhiben says,

“If we truly wish to build a better nation, education alone is not enough. We must also cultivate values, empathy, and the strength of character in every child.”

Through initiatives like Sanskar Sinchan, Dr. K. R. Shroff Foundation continues to shape not only bright students but responsible, value-driven citizens — proving that the most powerful lessons are often those taught with love.

 
ડૉ. કે. આર. શ્રોફ ફાઉન્ડેશનનો ઉદ્દેશ બાળકોને ફક્ત પુસ્તકિયુ જ્ઞાન આપવાનો નથી પણ તેનો સર્વાંગી વિકાસ કરી ઉત્તમ નાગરિક બનાવવાનો છે. આ માટે બાળકની સુષુપ્ત શક્તિને ખીલવવાની સાથે તેના દુર્ગુણોને ઓળખી દૂર કરવા પણ જરૂરી” બોટાદ જિલ્લાના ઘોઘાસમડી ગામની પ્રા.શાળામાં કાર્યરત KRSF ના પૂરક શિક્ષક રિદ્ધિબેન જ્યારે આ વાત કરી રહ્યા હતા ત્યારે તેઓની આંખમાં ચમક હતી. આ ચમક પાછળનું કારણ શાળાના ૨ બાળકો વ્યસનની ચુંગાલમાં ફસાયા હતા. રિદ્ધીબેને તેમને વ્યસન મુક્ત કરાવ્યા હતા. રિદ્ધિબેને જોયું કે શાળાના એક વિદ્યાર્થી અને એક વિદ્યાર્થીનીને નાની ઉંમરથી ગુટકા અને માવો ખાવાનું વ્યસન થઈ ગયું છે. રિદ્ધિબેનને બાળકો વ્યસન કરે તેવી ખબર પડી. પણ સીધી રીતે બધાની વચ્ચે બાળકોને કશું પણ કહેવું ખોટું પડશે, એવું એમને લાગ્યું. KRSF સંસ્કાર સિંચનના વર્ગો ચલાવે. આ વર્ગોમાં બાળકોના ઘડતર માટેની વાતો થાય. તેમાં વ્યસન મુક્તિની વાતો પણ ખરી. ખાસ તો વ્યસન કરવાથી શું થઈ શકે તેની વાતો. વ્યસન કરનાર બાળકો વર્ગમાં આવે તેમણે આ વાતો સાંભળી એમને અંદરથી રિદ્ધિબહેન બધાની વચમાં એમને કશુંક કહેશેનો ડર લાગ્યો એટલે એમણે શાળામાં આવવાનું બંધ કર્યું. રિદ્ધિબહેને બાળકની ગેરહાજરીનું કારણ જાણ્યું અને બાળકોના ઘરે જઈને એમને વ્યસનમાંથી મુક્ત થઈ શકાય છે. બસ મન મજબૂત કરવાનું છે વગેરે જેવી વાતો કરીને બાળકોએ વ્યસન મૂકવાનું પ્રણ લીધું ને પછી તો નિયમિત શાળાએ આવતા થઈ ગયા. સંસ્કાર સિંચનના વર્ગો અમે જેટલી પણ નિશાળમાં બાળકોના ઘડતરનું કામ કરીએ ત્યાં અલાયદા ચલાવીએ. એનો અલાયદો અભ્યાસક્રમ છે. બાળકોની સાથે સાથે શિક્ષકોને પણ અમારા સંસ્કાર સિંચનના વર્ગો ગમે. મારા ખ્યાલથી દેશ અને દુનિયાને ઉત્તમ બનાવવી હશે તો બાળકોના ભણતરની સાથે સાથે તેમના ગણતર ને એમાંય સંસ્કાર સિંચન પર ખાસ્સું ધ્યાન આપવું પડશે.

The Story of Vraj — When Determination Meets Destiny

In the quiet village of Vadoth in Sabarkantha district lives a young dreamer named Vraj. After scoring 65% in Class 10, he dared to dream what many might have called impossible — to become a doctor.

His father, a humble barber, earned just enough to sustain the family. The thought of affording medical education seemed beyond imagination. Yet, neither circumstances nor doubt could extinguish the fire within Vraj. With renewed resolve, he devoted himself to his studies in Classes 11 and 12, securing an impressive 88% in Class 12 and 397 marks in NEET. He could have chosen Ayurveda, but his heart was set on MBBS.

Unwilling to settle, Vraj decided to drop a year and try again. Through sheer perseverance and unyielding focus, he raised his NEET score to 531 marks on his second attempt — earning admission to a medical college in Gandhinagar.

But soon came the harsh reality — the ₹45 lakh required for tuition over the course of the program. The weight of that number nearly crushed his spirit. Why must financial hardship stand between me and my dream? he wondered.

Yet, as life often proves, when intention is pure and determination unwavering, the universe finds a way to respond.

Vraj often remembered the day his grandfather was treated at Ahmedabad Civil Hospital — an experience that had sparked his calling. “If Civil Hospital hadn’t been there,” he thought, “my grandfather might not have survived.” That moment had sown the seed of his purpose: to serve in a government hospital and heal others, just as his grandfather had been healed.

Seeing his sincerity, a kind acquaintance named Mitalben told Vraj’s father, “The Dr. K. R. Shroff Foundation can help your son.”

Soon, the family met Respected Shri Pratulbhai Shroff and Shri Udaybhai Desai, who listened to Vraj’s story and decided to support his medical education.

Today, Vraj stands tall as a first-year MBBS student, living the dream he once feared would remain out of reach — a dream brought to life through the support and faith of the Foundation.

With deep emotion, Vraj shares,

“There are very few people in this world who help others selflessly — just as the Foundation has helped me. I’ve made a promise: just as I was supported, I will help at least one student like myself become a doctor. If I can help more, I’ll be even happier. But I’ll begin with one, to repay my debt of gratitude to the Foundation.”

When Vraj visited the KRSF office and narrated his journey, it served as a heartfelt reminder of why we do what we do. Each story like his reaffirms our mission — to illuminate paths for children whose dreams deserve to soar.

દસમા ધો.માં ૬૫ ટકા આવ્યા. સપનું તો ડૉક્ટર બનવાનું જોયું. પણ આટલા ટકાએ ડૉક્ટર કેવી રીતે થવાય ? મારું ગામ સાબરકાંઠાનું વડોથ પપ્પા હજામનું કામ કરે. એમની પાસે એવા ઢગલો રૂપિયા નહીં કે મારી પાછળ એ ખર્ચે ને મને ડૉક્ટર બનાવે. મેં કમર કસીને ૧૧, ૧૨ ધો.માં ખૂબ મહેનત કરી. બારમાં ધોરણમાં ૮૮ ટકા ને નીટની પરીક્ષામાં ૩૯૭ માર્કસ આવ્યા. આર્યુવેદ ડૉક્ટર બની શકાય પણ મારે એમબીબીએસ થવું હતું. મેં ડ્રોપ લીધો ને નીટની પાછી તૈયારી કરી. મારુ લક્ષ્ય નક્કી હતું. બીજી વારમાં ૫૩૧ માર્કસ આવ્યા. ગાંધીનગરમાં મને મેડીકલમાં એડમીશન મળ્યું, પણ, મારો અભ્યાસ પૂર્ણ થાય ત્યાં સુધીમાં મારે નહીં નહીં તોય ૪૫ લાખ ફી પેટે ભરવાના થાય આટલા પૈસા ક્યાંથી લાવું...??? હું નિરાશ થઈ ગયેલો.. એ વખતે કેમ અમારી પાસે પૈસા નહીં એમ પણ થયું. પણ કે છે ને તમારો નિર્ધાર પાક્કો હોય ને એ નિર્ધારનો આશય શુદ્ધ હોય તો ભગવાન મદદ કરે. મેં નાનપણમાં મારા ાદાને અમદાવાદ સિવિલમાં સારવાર લેતા જોયેલા, સિવિલ ન હોત તો મારા દાદા ન બચત. એ વખતે ડૉક્ટર બનવાનું નક્કી કર્યું ને સરકારી હોસ્પિટલમાં સેવા આપવાનો નિર્ધાર કર્યો. ખાસ તો દાદા જેવા અનેક દર્દીની સારવાર કરી શકુ એ માટે... આ નિર્ધારમાં પવિત્રતા હતી એટલે મારા ગામના મિત્તલબેને મારા પપ્પાને ડો.કે.આર.શ્રોફ ફાઉન્ડેશન વિશે વાત કરી અને એ તમારા વ્રજને મદદ કરશેનું કહ્યું. એ પછી અમે પ્રતુલભાઈ શ્રોફ, ઉદયભાઈ દેસાઈને મળ્યા ને મારી વાતો સાંભળી એમણે મારી ફી ભરવા મદદ કરી. આજે હું MBBS ભણી રહ્યો છું તો ફાઉન્ડેશનના પ્રતાપે... નિસ્વાર્થભાવે આવી મદદ કરનાર આ દુનિયામાં કેટલા? મે પણ નિર્ધાર કર્યો છે. મારા જેવા એક વ્રજને તો મારી જેમ ડૉક્ટર બનાવીશ. એકથી વધુ થાય તો રાજી થઈશ પણ એકને બનાવીને સંસ્થા પ્રત્યેનું ઋણ હું અદા કરીશ... વ્રજ KRSF ની ઓફીસ પર આવ્યો ને એણે એની વાત અમને કરી. સંસ્થા લાખો બાળકોના જીવનમાં બદલાવ માટે પ્રયત્ન કરે. વ્રજ જેવા બાળકોએ જોયેલા સમણાં પૂરા કરવામાં નિમિત્ત બની શક્યાનો આનંદ..

In a small village near Radhanpur, lived a boy named Sombhai Bajaniya. His parents, both daily-wage laborers, worked tirelessly to make ends meet — yet, amid their struggles, they held one unshakable dream: to ensure that their son continued his education.

આ વાત લખવાનો આશય આજે પણ આર્થિક રીતે નબળા પરિવારો પોતાના બાળકોને ઈચ્છિત ભણાવી શકતા નથી. ઘરનું માંડ પૂરું થતું હોય ત્યાં ભણવાના આવા મસમોટા ખર્ચા એમને ક્યાંથી પોસાય? અમારા ધ્યાન પર આવા બાળકો આવે તો અમે એમને ઉચ્ચ અભ્યાસ માટે સ્કોલરશીપ આપીએ. જેથી તેઓ નિર્વિધ્ન રીતે અભ્યાસ પૂર્ણ કરી શકે.

There was a time when Shivani rarely came to school. Even when she did, her mind seemed elsewhere — distant, disinterested, detached from learning.

In many classrooms, when a child loses interest, teachers try for a while, but when progress seems impossible, hope quietly fades. Yet in Shivani’s case, something different happened — because her teacher, Harshidaben, carried within her the spirit of Dr. K. R. Shroff Foundation’s guiding principle: “Child First.”

At Jalampur Primary School in the Aravalli district, there was a shortage of teachers. Harshidaben had been placed there by KRSF to fill that gap. It was there she noticed Shivani’s repeated absences and her growing indifference to studies. Rather than accepting it as fate, she decided to find out why.

A home visit revealed the truth. Shivani’s parents, both daily-wage laborers, struggled to make ends meet. Their days revolved around uncertain work, and in the struggle for survival, their daughter’s education had taken a backseat.

But Harshidaben saw in Shivani not just a struggling student — she saw potential waiting to be rekindled. She began visiting the family regularly, encouraging both parents and child to see education as a bridge to a better life.

Around that time, she learned about KRSF’s Scholarship Program, which offers monthly support in the form of essential food supplies to students from economically weaker families who pass the Foundation’s qualifying exam. She saw this as both an opportunity and a motivation for Shivani — and began personally helping her prepare for the test.

Something shifted. For the first time, Shivani felt seen, understood, and supported. Her teacher’s faith became her own. She started studying with sincerity and soon passed the scholarship exam, earning the monthly assistance for her family.

When Harshidaben explained that continuing the scholarship would require Shivani to pass quarterly exams, her parents began taking an active interest as well. The financial relief, though modest, brought hope and dignity into their home — and with it, a renewed commitment to their daughter’s education.

The results soon spoke for themselves. Shivani, once irregular and disengaged, transformed into one of the top-performing students in her class. Her eyes now gleam with ambition — she dreams of studying further, of building a future her parents could once only imagine.

When Respected Shri Pratulbhai Shroff visited Jalampur, he made it a point to meet Shivani’s family. Her mother, overwhelmed with gratitude, expressed how the scholarship had not only eased their hardships but also restored faith, discipline, and dreams in their home.

Today, Shivani’s story stands as a radiant example of what the KRSF Scholarship Program truly represents — not charity, but transformation; not mere financial aid, but a spark that reignites hope in both children and their families.

સ્કોલરશીપ મેળવી રહેલી શિવાનીની વાત

શિવાની નિશાળમાં અનિયમિત ભણવામાં પણ ઝાઝી રૂચિ નહીં. સામાન્ય રીતે આખા વર્ગમાંથી એક બાળકને ભણવામાં રૂચિ ન હોવાનું જોઈને મોટાભાગે શિક્ષકો થોડો પ્રયત્ન કરે પણ એ પ્રયત્નમાં સફળતા ન મળે તો મૂકી દે.…

શિવાનીના કિસ્સામાં પણ શિક્ષિકા હર્ષિદાબહેન એને મૂકી દેવાનું કરી શક્યા હોત. પણ, KRSFના સિદ્ધાંતોએ એમને એમ કરતા રોક્યા. અરવલ્લી જિલ્લાના જાલમપુર નિશાળમાં શિક્ષકોની ઘટ. એ ઘટ પૂર્તી માટે હર્ષિદાબેનને ત્યાં મૂક્યા. શિવાનીની ગેરહાજરી શિક્ષણ પ્રત્યે ઉદાસીનતા જોઈને એ શિવાનીના ઘરે ગયા.

ઘરની આર્થિક સ્થિતિ એક સાંધતા તેર તૂટે એવી. મા-બાપ કાળી મજૂરી કરે. શિવાની પ્રત્યે એમનું ખાસ ધ્યાન પણ નહીં.

હર્ષિદાબહેને સંસ્થાનું સૂત્ર “બાળક પ્રથમ” એને બરાબર પોતાની કાર્યશૈલીમાં ઉતારેલું. એમણે શિવાનીને નિયમિત શાળામાં લાવવાનો પ્રયત્ન અને એ પછી ફાઉન્ડેશન દ્વારા આર્થિક રીતે નબળા બાળકોને દર મહિને સ્કોરશીપ આપવામાં આવે, તે સ્કોલરશીપ શિવાનીને મળે તે માટે પરિક્ષાની તૈયારી કરાવવાનું શરૂ કર્યું.

શિવાનીને પણ શિક્ષિકા એનામાં રસ લે એટલે મજા પડી. એ પરિક્ષામાં પાસ થઈ અને સંસ્થા દ્વારા એને માસિક સ્કોલરશીપ મળવાની શરૂ થઈ. હવે હર્ષિદાબહેને શિવાનીના માતા પિતાને આ સ્કોલરશીપ કાયમ જોઈતી હોય તો શિવાનીએ દર ત્રણ મહિને સંસ્થા દ્વારા લેવાતી પરિક્ષા પાસ કરવી પડશે અને એ માટે એમને મહેતન કરાવવી પડશે તેમ કહ્યું.

સ્કોલરશીપ રૂપે ઘરમાં ટેકો થઈ રહ્યો હતો. એટલે મા-બાપે પણ શિવાની પર ધ્યાન આપવાનું શરૂ કર્યું. જ્યારે હર્ષિદાબહેન તો સાથે હતા જ. સહિયારા પ્રયાસથી શિવાની હવે

એના વર્ગમાં અવલ્લ નંબરે પાસ થાય છે, એને ભણીને ખૂબ આગળ વધવું છે. વળી આ સ્વપ્ન શિવાનીના મા-બાપ પણ સેવવા માંડ્યા.

સ્કોલરશીપ આપવા પાછળનો અમારો આશય પણ શિક્ષણ પ્રત્યે ઉદાસીન થયેલા હોંશિયાર બાળકોને પાછા મન લગાવીને ભણતા કરવાનો...

આદરણીય પ્રતુલભાઈ જાલમપુર ગયા ત્યારે શિવાનીના ઘરે ગયા. શિવાનીના મમ્મીએ પ્રતુલભાઈનો આભાર તેમણે સ્કોલરશીપ થકી કરેલા ટેકા માટે માન્યો
