Such is the immeasurable importance of a teacher’s role in shaping young lives.
At Dr. K. R. Shroff Foundation (KRSF), we believe that building a nation begins with nurturing its teachers. Through our educational initiatives, we are reaching more than 81,200 children, and the heartbeat of this mission is our devoted community of educators. As we guide and empower our teachers, they in turn illuminate the paths of the children entrusted to them.
Recently, at Danta-1 Pay Center School in Danta Taluka, a story unfolded that beautifully captures this spirit of compassion and purpose.
One of the students, Rohit, had been missing school frequently. His absence did not go unnoticed by Mohsinbhai, a KRSF-appointed supplementary teacher. Concerned, he approached the school principal, who encouraged him to visit Rohit’s home and learn the reason firsthand.
At KRSF, we encourage such heartfelt engagement — our teachers regularly visit students’ homes and connect with their parents. In fact, the frequency and quality of these interactions form an integral part of our teacher evaluations. We believe that education thrives best where trust, empathy, and shared responsibility exist between teachers and families.
When Mohsinbhai visited Rohit’s modest home, he was met by the boy’s mother — a weary yet dignified woman burdened by hardship. Gently, he asked why Rohit had not been attending school. Her eyes lowered as she replied softly,
“He doesn’t have a school uniform right now. We’ll buy one when we can… but it may take some time.”
Behind those few words lay a world of struggle. Rohit’s father had passed away. His mother worked as a daily-wage laborer to feed her son, her elderly mother-in-law, and a mentally challenged daughter. During the monsoon season, even that small source of income often vanished.
In that humble home, Mohsinbhai did not need more explanation. He could see everything written across their faces — the quiet resilience, the silent suffering.
A school uniform may seem trivial to many, but to a child like Rohit, it was the fragile thread that connected him to hope, belonging, and dignity. To Mohsinbhai, the thought that a bright future might dim for want of such a small thing was unbearable.
Though his own income was modest, his heart was vast. Without hesitation, he went out and bought a uniform for Rohit — a simple act, yet one that carried immense meaning. Two pieces of fabric became a symbol of care, humanity, and purpose.
The next morning, Rohit arrived at school dressed neatly in his new uniform, his face glowing with pride and joy. From that day onward, he never missed a class again.
Some might say, “It was only ₹500 or ₹600 — nothing extraordinary.”
But we see it differently. It takes courage to care, and greatness to act.
In a world where many look away, Mohsinbhai chose to step forward.

ધાડ મારવા જેવું કામ...
‘શાળાનો ઓરડો પડી જશે તો બાળકોને વૃક્ષ નીચે બેસાડી ભણાવી શકાશે. પણ, શિક્ષક બાળકો પ્રત્યે ઉદાસીન બની જશે, એના કર્તવ્યથી એ પીછેહઠ કરશે તો કંઈ કેટલાય બાળકોનું ભાવી અધ્ધરતાલ થઈ જશે..'
એટલે જ શિક્ષકની ભૂમિકા બાળકોના જીવનમાં ખૂબ અગત્યની એ અંગે વારંવાર બોલવામાં આવે..

હમણાં દાંતા તાલુકાની દાંતા-૧ પગાર કેન્દ્ર શાળામાં ભણતો રોહીત સતત ગેરહાજર રહેતો હોવાનું આ શાળામાં KRSF એ મૂકેલા
પૂરક શિક્ષક મોહસીનભાઈના ધ્યાનમાં આવ્યું. શાળાના આચાર્ય સાથે પણ આ બાબતે વાત થઈ. એમણે કહ્યું, બાળકના ઘરે જઈને તપાસ કરો તો વધુ ખ્યાલ આવે. આમ પણ KRSFના શિક્ષકો જે બાળકોને ભણાવે તે બાળકોના વાલીઓને મળવા પણ વખતો વખત જાય. આ અમારી તાલીમનો ભાગ ને શિક્ષકના મૂલ્યાંકનમાં પણ અમે એ કેટલી વાર બાળકોના વાલીઓને મળ્યા તે નોંધીએ. આનાથી ઘરોબો કેળવાય ને બાળકોની ચિંતા વાલીઓ સાથે શિક્ષકને છે એ પણ ક્યાંક પ્રતિપાદિત થાય.
મોહસીનભાઈ રોહિતના ઘરે ગયા અને ગેરહાજર રહેવાનું કારણ પૂછ્યું તો રોહીતની મમ્મીએ કહ્યું, 'એની પાસે ગણવેશ નથી. ને હાલ અમારી પાસે ગણવેશ ખરીદી આપવાના પૈસા નથી. પૈસા આવતા ગણવેશ ખરીદી આપીશું પણ એમાં વખત લાગશે..
આમ તો આ એક માની લાચારી હતી. એમને આ વાત મોહસીનભાઈને કહેતા પણ સંકોચ થતો હતો. સંકોચ થવો સ્વાભાવિક. વળી રોહીતને પિતા નહીં. મા, દાદી અને એક માનસિક દિવ્યાંગ બહેન સાથે રોહિત રહે. મા મજૂરી કરે ને ઘરનું પૂરૂ કરે. પણ આવા ચોમાસામાં મજૂરીએ ક્યાં મળે?
પરિવારની સ્થિતિ જોઈને ઘણું ન કહેલું પણ મોહસીનભાઈ સમજી ગયા. ગણવેશની કિંમત મોટી ન હોય પણ એ ન હોવાના કારણે બાળકનું ભવિષ્ય બગડે એ એમને ગમ્યું નહીં.
મોહસીનભાઈને અમે માનદ વેતન આપીએ પણ એ કાંઈ બહુ મોટું નહીં. પણ, એ કર્તવ્યનિષ્ઠા જાણે, સમાજને ઉપયોગી થવાની ભાવના પણ એમનામાં ભારોભાર. એમણે તુરંત રોહીતને ગણવેશ લઈ આપ્યો. વાત બે
કપડાની જ. પણ, રોહીતના મોંઢા પર એનાથી ચમક આવી. એ નિત નિશાળ આવતો થયો..
મોહસીનભાઈએ આપેલા ગણવેશની કિંમત પાંચસો - છસ્સો હશે… કોઈને લાગશે એમાં શું ધાડ મારી……. ત્યારે હું કહીશ ચોક્કસ ધાડ મારવા જેવું કામ… એમણે રોહીતની સ્થિતિ જાણી એ બેસી ન રહ્યા. કેટલુંક આપણા હાથમાં ન હોય, એ આપણે ન કરી શકીએ. પણ અહીંયા એમના હાથમાં ગણવેશ લાવવાનું તો હતું ને એમણે એ કર્યું...
KRSF ની બાળક પ્રથમ વાળી વાત અમારા શિક્ષક સમજે એ મોહનસીનભાઈ જેવા અનેક શિક્ષકોમાં જોયું છે. બસ વાવેલું ઊગ્યાનું જોઈને અમે તો રાજી… ને મોહસીનભાઈની કાર્ય પરાયણતા ને પ્રણામ....
