Because Talent Should Never Be Silenced by Poverty

In a small village near Radhanpur, lived a boy named Sombhai Bajaniya. His parents, both daily-wage laborers, worked tirelessly to make ends meet — yet, amid their struggles, they held one unshakable dream: to ensure that their son continued his education.

Sombhai was a bright and determined student. His hard work paid off when he scored high marks in Class 12, enough to qualify for medical studies. But destiny often tests even the most deserving. His parents, despite their love and sacrifice, simply could not afford the expenses that came with pursuing such an education. They had no knowledge of scholarships, benefactors, or foundations that could have supported him.

Unable to chase his dream of becoming a doctor, Sombhai chose a different path — he completed his B.Sc. and became a teacher, now shaping other young minds with the same sincerity that once defined his own ambitions. Yet, one can’t help but wonder — had he known of an organization like the Dr. K. R. Shroff Foundation back then, perhaps his village might have celebrated its first doctor today.

This story reflects a larger truth. Even today, countless capable students across rural India face the same crossroad — where talent meets limitation, and dreams fade beneath the weight of financial hardship. For families struggling to meet daily needs, the cost of higher education can feel impossibly out of reach.

At the Dr. K. R. Shroff Foundation (KRSF), we believe that no child’s dream should be denied for want of means. રાધનપુર પાસેના એક ગામમાં રહેતા સોમભાઈ બજાણિયાના મા-બાપ મજૂરી કરે અને સોમભાઈને ભણાવે. સોમભાઈ ભણવામાં ખૂબ હોંશિયાર. બારમાં ધોરણમાં મેડીકલમાં જવાય એટલી ટકાવારી આવી. પણ, મા—બાપ પાસે આર્થિક સગવડ નહીં. સમાજમાં રહેલા કેટલાક શ્રેષ્ઠીઓ આ કાર્યમાં મદદ કરી શકે તેવી તેમને ખબર નહીં. એમણે બીએસસી કર્યું હાલ શિક્ષક તરીકે કામ કરે પણ જો એ વખતે ડો.કે.આર.શ્રોફ ફાઉન્ડેશન જેવી સંસ્થાના પરિચયમાં એ હોત તો આજે એ એમના સમાજના પ્રથમ ડૉક્ટર હોત.

આ વાત લખવાનો આશય આજે પણ આર્થિક રીતે નબળા પરિવારો પોતાના બાળકોને ઈચ્છિત ભણાવી શકતા નથી. ઘરનું માંડ પૂરું થતું હોય ત્યાં ભણવાના આવા મસમોટા ખર્ચા એમને ક્યાંથી પોસાય? અમારા ધ્યાન પર આવા બાળકો આવે તો અમે એમને ઉચ્ચ અભ્યાસ માટે સ્કોલરશીપ આપીએ. જેથી તેઓ નિર્વિધ્ન રીતે અભ્યાસ પૂર્ણ કરી શકે.
