Aviraj's parents became alert before they happen to lose from all sides.

Nowadays parents are crazy to teach their children in English medium. They think that child will not fall back anywhere if he can speak good English. In a way, their belief may be true but it is not correct to believe that English medium is the only way to learn English language. But it is not possible to communicate all these things with the parents. Now, what happens after admitting the child in English medium is, there is no one in the house to speak in English or teach him English. So, the child gradually starts losing self-confidence. And, when English-medium schools in the cities also don't have the enough caliber teachers, where and how can you find them in villages like Netramali in Sabarkantha district?

Aviraj studied first and second standard in English medium. But he didn't fit in there. Aviraj's parents felt that their son was having trouble in studying, so they took an immediate decision to withdraw him from English medium and put him in third grade in a government school. But in the third standard he did not learn anything. When he was promoted to the fourth standard, Aviraj came to the attention of Anjanaben, a teacher of Dr. K R Shroff Foundation who worked as a supplementary teacher at Netramali Primary School. She started teaching Aviraj, studying in the fourth grade, right from Gujarati alphabets to simple math of addition and subtraction. Other primary school teachers also started paying attention to Aviraj. He was considered dull student but with the hard work of the teachers, he scored 25 out of 25 marks in Gujarati, Environment and Mathematics in the unit test conducted in the school. Aviraj now has gained self-confidence. Aviraj, who was considered dull in studies, has started securing first rank.

Every school may have students like Aviraj. Like Anjanaben focused on Aviraj, if every teacher tries to

find such children in their classrooms who are weak or have lost self-confidence, and work with them

hard, their future will stop being bleak.

બાવાના બેય બગડે એ પહેલાં અવીરાજના માતા પિતા ચેતી ગયા. 

આજ કાલ અંગ્રેજી માધ્યમની નિશાળામાં પોતાના બાળકોને ભણાવવાની માતા પિતાને ઘેલછા. એમને લાગે કે બાળક સારુ અંગ્રેજી બોલી શકે તો એ ક્યાંય પાછુ ન પડે. એક રીતે એમની વાત સાચી પણ ખાલી ભાષા શીખવા અંગ્રેજી માધ્યમ યોગ્ય નથી. પણ આ બધી વાત વાલીઓ સાથે થાય નહીં એટલે અંગ્રેજી માધ્યમ બાળકને દાખલ કર્યા પછી ઘરમાં બાળકને અંગ્રેજી બોલાનાર કે એ સબબ ભણાવનાર કોઈ મળે નહીં એટલે બાળક ધીમે ધીમે આત્મવિશ્વાસ ગુમાવવા માંડે. વળી શહેરમાંય અંગ્રેજી માધ્યમની નિશાળમાં સરખા શિક્ષક મળતા નથી ત્યાં સાબરકાંઠાના નેત્રામલી જેવા ગામોમાં તો ક્યાંથી મળે?

અવીરાજ એકડુ અને બીજુ ધોરણ અંગ્રેજી માધ્યમમાં ભણ્યો. પણ એને ત્યાં એને ગોઠ્યું નહીં.

અવીરાજના મા-બાપને દીકરાને ભણવામાં તકલીફ પડી રહ્યાનું લાગ્યું એમણે તુરત નિર્ણય લઈ અંગ્રેજી માધ્યમમાંથી અવીરાજને ઉઠાડી સરકારી શાળામાં ત્રીજા ધોરણમાં એને બેસાડ્યો. પણ ત્રીજા ધોરણમાં એને કશું આવડે નહીં. એ જ્યારે ચોથા ધોરણમાં આવ્યો ત્યારે ડો. કે.આર.શ્રોફ ફાઉન્ડેશનના શિક્ષિકા જેઓ નેત્રામલી પ્રાથમિક શાળામાં પુરક શિક્ષક તરીકે કામ કરતા તેવા અંજનાબહેનનું ધ્યાન અવીરાજ પર ગયું. એમણે ચોથામાં ભણતા અવીરાજને કક્કો બારાક્ષરી થી લઈને સરવાળા બાદબાકી શીખવવાનું શરૃ કર્યું. 

પ્રાથમિકશાળાના અન્ય શિક્ષકોએ પણ અવીરાજ પર ધ્યાન આપવાનું શરૃ કર્યું. અવીરાજની છાપ ઠોઠ વિદ્યાર્થીની પણ શિક્ષકોની મહેનતથી શાળામાં લેવાયેલી એકમ કસોટીમાં એને ગુજરાતી, પર્યાવરણ અને ગણિતમાં પચીસમાંથી પચીસ ગુણ આવ્યા.

અવીરાજમાં હવે આત્મવિશ્વાસ વધ્યો છે. ભણવામાં ઢ ગણાતો અવીરાજ અવ્વલ આવવા માંડ્યો. 

દરેક શાળામાં અવિરાજ જેવા વિદ્યાર્થીઓ હશે. જેમ અંજનાબહેનનું ધ્યાન અવિરાજ પર ગયું એમ દરેક શિક્ષક પોતાના વર્ગખંડમાં નબળા લાગતા અથવા આત્મવિશ્વાસ ગુમાવી બેઠેલા આવા બાળકોને શોધી તેના પર મહેનત કરે તો તેમનું ભાવી અંધકારમય થતુ અટકે.
